SimPulse Privacy Policy
Effective date: 22 May 2026 · Last updated: 22 May 2026
This Privacy Policy describes how the SimPulse Android application ("the app", "SimPulse") handles information when you install and use it.
Plain-language summary
SimPulse runs entirely on your device. We do not collect, transmit, sell, share, or retain any personal information. There are no analytics, no crash reporting, no advertising, and no remote servers contacted by the app.
Data we do not collect
The app does not collect or transmit any of the following to any remote server or third party:
- Personally identifiable information (name, email, phone, etc.)
- Device identifiers (advertising ID, hardware ID, IMEI, MAC address)
- Real GPS coordinates or any other location data
- Usage analytics, telemetry, or crash reports
- Contacts, photos, files, microphone, or camera content
- Bluetooth scan results or device pairing history
Permissions we request and why
| Permission | Why we use it |
|---|---|
BLUETOOTH_CONNECT, BLUETOOTH_ADVERTISE, BLUETOOTH_SCAN, BLUETOOTH, BLUETOOTH_ADMIN |
Required to act as a Bluetooth SPP (serial port profile) server. SimPulse only accepts incoming connections from devices the user has paired with the phone; it does not scan for or transmit to other devices. |
ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION, ACCESS_COARSE_LOCATION, ACCESS_MOCK_LOCATION |
Required by Android in order to register SimPulse as a Mock Location provider in Developer Options. SimPulse only writes simulated coordinates to the system; it never reads your real GPS position. |
FOREGROUND_SERVICE, FOREGROUND_SERVICE_CONNECTED_DEVICE, FOREGROUND_SERVICE_LOCATION |
Required to keep the OBD2 server and GPS mock provider running while the screen is locked. |
POST_NOTIFICATIONS |
Used to show the ongoing-service notification while the OBD or GPS service is active. |
The BLUETOOTH_SCAN permission is declared with the neverForLocation flag — we do not derive location from Bluetooth scans.
Data stored locally on your device
The app stores the following on your phone, using Android's standard DataStore preferences (private app storage). Nothing here ever leaves the device.
- Your currently selected OBD2 and GPS profile IDs
- A list of trouble codes (DTCs) you have added through the in-app editor
- Any custom OBD2 profiles you create (vehicle name, VIN, sensor base values, bundled DTC list)
- Recent in-memory command log (cleared when the app process is killed)
You can erase all of this at any time by uninstalling the app or by clearing the app's data from Android Settings.
Third parties
SimPulse uses no third-party SDKs, analytics libraries, advertising networks, or backend services. All processing is local.
Children
SimPulse is a developer / quality-assurance tool. It is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect any data from anyone.
Open source
SimPulse is open source under the MIT License. The full source code is available at https://gitverse.ru/sharapovav/SimPulse.
